Life - Now and Then

Statement 1: There used to be a time when I used to sleep at 5 in the morning and wake up at 10. I'm not able to do that nowadays.

Statement 2: I look at the world and see selfish people. They still remain the same - now and then.

What's the correlation between statement 1 and statement 2?
